Richard N. Woodward, 85, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, January 8, 2021 at Killeen Memorial Park Cemetery with burial to follow officiated by Pastor Bobby Nelms.
Richard was born on January 16, 1935 to James Woodward and Julia Powell Woodward in Versailles, Kentucky. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1953. Richard married the love of his life Sue Richardson on September 19, 1953 in Lexington, Kentucky. They were Junior High and High School sweethearts. He joined the Army Reserves right out of High School then went on to join the United States Army in active duty in 1956. Richard served two tours in Vietnam as a Helicopter Pilot. He served 30 years active duty. During his career in the Army, he was a Sargent as a Tank Commander and then went on to flight school and became a Warrant Officer and Helicopter Pilot, Fixed Wing Pilot, Army Liaison for Military to Civilian Air Space in Denver, Colorado. He retired as a CW4 in 1986. Richard completed a college degree earned a certificate from Bell and Howell Electronics and The DeVry Institute. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, and traveled extensively across the United States and Europe.
Richard N. Woodward was preceded in death by his parents, James, and Julia Woodward; his wife Sue Richardson Woodward; his sister, Shirley Woodward Shields; his brothers, Malcum Powell Woodward, William Jason Woodward, and James David Woodward.
He is survived by his children, Dana Woodward Nelms, Greg Woodward; his granddaughter Jennifer Maloy; his great grandsons, Tyler Harrington, and Jordan Harrington; one niece and one nephew.
